Education

I attended Cleveland City Schools and Cleveland High School. I went  to Cleveland State and obtained an A.S. degree in science. Then I went on to UTC and received a B.S. in psychology. I thought about going on to be a school psychologist or into the psychology field but decided to take more classes for a B.S. in elementary education with a specialty in early childhood.  Well, I liked college so much I continued to attend classes and received my master's in elementary education with a concentration in reading. A group of my colleagues and I then worked together and finished our education specialist degree in educational leadership. For these degrees I attended UTC, UTK and LMU.

Experience

I began my career teaching first grade at Dug Gap Elementary School in Whitfield County, Georgia. I taught first grade for eleven years and my last year  there I was an Early Intervention Program teacher, working with small groups of students in grades K-5 who needed additional help in reading and math. I wanted to get a little closer to home, so I became an EIP teacher at Cohutta Elementary for five years. I was the lead language arts teacher and lead EIP teacher while I was there.

At that point, my daughter began school and I wanted to teach even closer to home, so I was fortunate to be hired by the Bradley County School System as a reading coach/instructional coach. I enjoyed this position for seven years, but I was ready to work with students more, so I am a classroom teacher this year. I am thrilled to be at North Lee! My daughter attended North Lee in K-5 by our choice so I know first hand what a special place North Lee Elementary School is. This is truly a school of excellence!

Bio

Hi, I am Vicky Vicars and I am teaching third grade this year at North Lee.  This is my eighth  year at North Lee Elementary School and my twenty-fifth year teaching.  I am married to Tom Vicars and we have a daughter, Madeline, who is in eighth grade at Ocoee Middle School. I was born in Cleveland and have always lived here. My birthday is December 7th, which is Pearl Harbor Day. However, I was not born that year!

We have four pets. One, George, is a gray and white spotted domestic shorthair cat. The other cat is a beautiful, but crazy Siamese. We also have a good old black lab, named Max, and an Anatolian Shepherd named Sweetie. All my pets were rescued from the Cleveland Animal Shelter or other rescues. I believe in saving the animals at the shelter!

We have a cabin on Watts Bar Lake and my family enjoys swimming, boating and tubing. I also enjoy reading, shopping, and UT football.  My family has several season tickets and we enjoy going to the football games. I have traveled to most of the SEC stadiums to support the Vols and hope to one day visit them all. GO VOLS!!!!!
